Life in Brooklyn - TLC Seized Car For No Reason

A Brooklyn fruit store manager was claiming Friday that he and an employee were victimized by overzealous inspectors, who deemed their private car an illegal taxi and seized it.

Williamsburg grocer Mayer Kohn said he feels the car was “stolen”  He said he was just making a trip to restock his supply of bananas when he became ensnared in a nightmare courtesy of taxi inspectors.  “I’m very angry,” Kohn said. “The whole night I did not get sleep, because I see what police can do with the people.”  Kohn’s story is simple. He had Paulino Rodriguez, who has worked for him for 13 years, drive him to the nearby Pepe’s fruit wholesaler. But on the way back to his store, he was stopped by Taxi and Limousine Commissioners, who claimed Rodriguez was driving an illegal taxi.  They impounded the car and gave him a $2,000 ticket.

The TLC insisted that its actions were legitimate. “Our officers observed a street hail and followed the ride to the drop-off, and then interviewed the passenger,” said TLC spokesman Allan J. Fromberg. “A determination was made that there was sufficient evidence of illegal for-hire activity.”  Kohn and Rodriguez were given the opportunity to plead guilty and cut the fine in half, or fight the ticket. They have chosen the latter option.  Their court date is set for Tuesday, Dec. 16. But in the meantime, Rodriguez’s car is in a local impound lot.

Footage Of Jerusalem Supermarket Stabbing Attack

Footage of a stabbing attack on a West Bank supermarket on Wednesday emerged on Thursday, showing the terrorist set upon two men with a knife from behind before being chased through the store.

Two Israelis were moderately injured in the attack, at a branch of the Rami Levy discount chain in Mishor Adumim, an industrial zone east of Jerusalem.  Police said they are treating the incident as a terror attack.

The clip shows the two men with carts in the wine section of the store, deep in the supermarket.  The terrorist stands for several seconds between the two men before suddenly hitting one over the head with what appears to be a knife. He briefly tussles with another man, apparently injuring him too and then flees. In footage from a different camera, the terrorist is seen sprinting through the store with his weapon raised as shoppers scatter, and one man with a red shirt chases him from behind with his handgun drawn.

The assailant was identified as a 16-year-old Arab youth from the West Bank town Al-Azariya on the outskirts of Jerusalem, who arrived at the supermarket with two accomplices from his hometown.  He was brought before Israel’s Shin Bet security service on Thursday for interrogation.  The shooter was an off-duty guard who works as part of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security detail and happened to be in the store.

Blima Friedman A"H Laid To Rest Following Accident

Hundreds of people packed into a Borough Park funeral home Wednesday to mourn a 10-year-old girl who was fatally hit by a car in a crash that also seriously injured her pregnant mother.

Grieving relatives and friends filled the Shomrie Hadas funeral home at 14th and 38th streets, where Blima Friedman's body rested in a casket covered in a blue shroud.

Blima was crossing 60th Street near Eighth Avenue Tuesday night with her 33-year-old mother, Sara, when a valet who was driving someone else's minivan without permission slammed into them, killing Blima, police said.

Blima's mother suffered a punctured liver and fractured ribs in the crash and was in a medically induced coma Wednesday, according to the family's rabbi. She had not been told of Blima's death, but she gave birth to a baby girl who was in stable condition, police and Rabbi Jack Meyer said.

Yakov Mordechai, Blima's father and Sara's husband, spoke last at the funeral.

"My wife should have a complete and speedy recovery with the help of God," Mordechai, a father of six, told the crowd in Yiddish. "The new baby should plead with God to help our family recover."

The driver who hit Blima and her mother was Bilal Ghumman, 22, a valet who was in a minivan he didn't have permission to drive, police said. Ghumman was arrested and charged with driving a car without the owner's permission. It was not immediately clear if he was working when he took the car.

Bear Chases Biker - Real or Fake?

It was a usual day, for this man who decided tо cycle in the forest and to record his ride on his Gopro camera. To his surprise, he met a bear who started to chase after him. But as the cyclists said "Thank G-d, I left alive due to the shots that thundered not far from that location!"

Having stated the above, many question the authenticity of the clip and suggest it is the work of video editing.

Cool Robots Are Processing Your Amazon Orders

Across the country, laborers are hard at work lifting 700-pound shelves full of multivolume encyclopedias, propane grills or garden gnomes and dragging them across vast warehouse floors. Carefully trained not to bump into one another, the squat workers are 320 pounds and a mere 16 inches tall.

They’re some of the most advanced robots that e-commerce giant Amazon now uses to ship its goods. In an exclusive,  photographer and videographer Stephen Wilkes captured these Amazon robots in action at the company’s Tracy, Calif., warehouse.
