Rare Footage, First Knessia Gedolah, Vienna, August 1923

The First World Congress (Knessia Gedolah) of the World Agudath Israel the first major gathering of all the different sects of Klal Yisroel which took place in Vienna starting from Elul 3, 5683 / August 15, 1923/5684 and which lasted for ten days.

It is worth noting that the proposal for the study of Daf Hayomi was made at that time by Rabbi Meir Shapiro, then Rav of Sanok, Poland, and future Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin and the resolution was adopted Rabbi Shapiro viewed the program as a way to unify the Jewish people. הכנסייה הראשונה יועדה להתקיים בחודש אלול תרע"ד (1914), אך מספר שבועות לפני התאריך המיועד פרצה מלחמת העולם הראשונה.

המועד: ג'-י' באלול תרפ"ג (1923). המקום: וינה. בכנסייה השתתפו כ-900 צירים.
