A U.S. Marine Corps Captain had to overcome a “gear malfunction” when his nose gear failed to come down ahead of a landing on an aircraft carrier at sea.
Capt. William Mahoney had only just taken off in his AV-8B Harrier jet from the USS Bataan on June 7 2014. when he realized that he “had a gear malfunction.”
In a dramatic video of the “controlled landing,” Mahoney describes how he managed to land the aircraft on an “amazing invention” -- essentially a stool built specifically for a landing without nose gear.
