Protest In Jerusalem Over Jailed Yeshiva Draft Dodger

Riots broke out in Jerusalem Today April 10 2014 after more then 1 thousand of ultra-Orthodox Jews protested the arrest of a student after he dodged the IDF draft.

Eliahu Cohen, a yeshiva student, was arrested Monday and sentenced to 20 days in prison, where he will spend Passover. Police blocked roads around the area of demonstration. Some protesters threw rocks at police and five were arrested. A new conscription law states that yeshiva students between the ages of 18 and 22 are required to report to the IDF.  Rabbi Shmuel Auerbach, who is known for his stance against the draft of yeshiva students, criticized the decision to leave Cohen in prison during Passover.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says protesters in Jerusalem hurled stones and bottles at police and set trash bins on fire. He said police on horseback pushed them back and five were arrested.

look as a frum yid myself - even i realise that sitting there davening may be pleasing for the spiritual but is not going to physically cause magic rays of lightening to stop suicide bombrs or arab countries invading. what good did taleisim and davening do during the holocaust? im not saying h` y `d the victims didnt go to shomayim straight away all im saying is you cant just rely on torah, you need some kind of force, army and by not supporting it you are endangering yourselves. lets see what would happen if the entire israeli army disbanded and sat down learning gemorah all day.. exactly!
