Orthodox Chasidic Jews are gathering in Leżajsk, southeast Poland for the annual celebration of one of the founders of the Chasidic movement, Rabbi Elimelech Weisblum. The ceremonies over the weekend mark the 228th anniversary of the death of Elimelech of Lizhensk, as the town was known in Yiddish, Was attended by several thousand Chasidic Jews from around the world. Rebbi Elimelech (1717 - 1787), authored the classic work Noam Elimelech, which developed the Chasidic theory of the Tzaddik. As the founder of Chasidism in Poland-Galicia, his influence led numerous leaders and dynasties to emerging from his disciples through the early 19th century
