Gigantic Avalanche Tumbling Down The Italian Alps

A terrifying avalanche in the Italian Alps which felled trees and destroyed buildings was captured in a stunning high definition video.

The video, shot in the Passiria valley in South Tyrol, Italy, shows thousands of tonnes of snow tumbling down a mountain side, destroying everything in its path. Farm buildings and inns in the village of Pill were evacuated just in time, with 25 locals taken to safety by car and helicopter. One of the farmers filmed the stunning video from a safe distance on a hill on the other side of the valley on Thursday Feb 6 2014. The snow tumbled down the mountain for more than five minutes, taking out huge ferns and buildings and blocking road access to the village. Nobody was injured in the avalanche.
