Greenfield Push To Reduced Residential Speed Limits

A New York City councilman is increasing his efforts to reduce the speed limit in residential neighborhoods nearly a month after a 12-year-old was fatally struck by a van near Prospect Park.

Councilman David Greenfield (D-District 44) says the death of Samuel Cohen could have been prevented had the enforced speed limit been lower. Cohen was killed near Prospect Park West and Third Street.

Greenfield has been pushing a bill called "The Safe Streets Act" since September 2011, which would reduce speed limits in residential zones from 30 mph to 20 mph.
