President Shimon Peres met with Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, as done annually on the eve of the seventh day of Pesach, Shas heads Arye Deri and Eli Yishai joined in the closed gathering, during which Rabbi Yosef raised the issue of the enlistment of yeshiva students to Peres. During the meeting Rabbi Yosef said to Peres: “The Torah defends Israel. As long as Israel engages in Torah - God will not leave us”.
