Stolen Torah Returns to Monticello

Men, young and old, congregants of the Landfield Avenue Bais Medrash in Monticello NY, were joined Tuesday evening January 31 2012, by residents of the greater Monticello community as a Torah scroll, which was stolen from the house of worship three weeks ago and was recovered last week, was carried back home from the police station. The procession represented a victory for the congregation’s members. Many suffered weeks of anguish after the Torah was stolen between the evening of Dec. 30 and the following morning.

The lively procession included local officials and students from Yeshiva Zichron Mayir in Mountaindale. All passed the Sullivan County Jail, where Woodridge resident Christopher Colvill is being held in connection with the theft.Colvill, 41, was arrested Jan
