Vin News - Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel, the beloved Rosh Yeshiva of the prestigious Yeshivas Mirrer Yerushalayim for the past 21 years was niftar today in Yerushalayim at the age of 68.
R’ Finkel was born in Chicago and he carried the name of his great-grandfather the Alter of Slobodka. Afflicted with Parkinson’s disease, R’ Finkel reportedly never took drugs to alleviate his symptoms as he had been told by his doctor that they might affect his memory.
“I would rather be ill my whole life than to forget even one word of the holy Torah,” R’ Finkel is said to have told one of his Talmidim.
The Mirrer Yeshiva is the largest yeshiva in Israel with an enrollment of approximately 6,000 talmidim, many of whom are American or Canadian.
