An unusual robbery that took place on February 7 in China's northern Tianjin city is drawing laughs on the internet. After walking into the bank, the robber calmly covers his head. He takes out a hammer and begins smashing the counter window. Two terrified bank tellers scramble behind the counter, and call for help.
Within 24 hours of being posted online, the video received more than 1.5-million views. Many netizens were amused at the robber's efforts, while others mocked the footage as advertising for a glass company.
So, what happened to the robber? Well, according to local media reports on February 8th he was eventually apprehended by police.
The robbery is not your usual smash and grab. For a few minutes, the bank robber stands in position, hacking at the bullet-proof window in a steady motion. A little less alarmed, the tellers return to take away the safe.
Soon after, the robber tries to climb through the hole he made. When he finds out he can't fit, he begins hacking again. A would-be customer is seen walking in, but quickly turns around and leaves. Eventually the robber makes a hole big enough to squeeze through. After an awkward landing, he takes what he can and tries to climb back out. While he has one foot stuck in the hole, two policemen arrive. After a brief standoff, he manages to wriggle away, and runs into a back room.
