The Orthodox Jew was shot during a robbery attempt, police sources said. Burech Halberstam, son of Rabbi Zalman Halberstam, is in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital after he was shot once in the stomach when he was approached by two men, believed to be either black or Hispanic. Police said one of them pulled out a gun and shot Halberstam once in the stomach A witness followed the van, with the gunman on board, and at one point, one of them pulled out a gun and made treats, causing the man to back off the pursuit.
