President Shimon Peres presented Assaf Ramon with the award for excellence at Ramon's graduation ceremony from flight school. On September 13, 2009 Ramon died when his F-16 crashed near Mount Hebron six years after his father, Ilan Ramon, the first Israeli astronaut, died re-entering Earth on the space ship Columbia.
