Yaakov From Uzbekistan - The Face Behind the Song Full Article

About a month ago, on the fourth of Adar, was the Yhartzeit of Yaakov Potash. Famously known as Yaakob, from the popular heart wrenching Reb Yom Tov Ehrlich song which was subsequently recorded by Avraham Fried on his Yiddishe Gems series.

I was told that when Yaakov escaped, the first house he found was none other then the house of Reb Yom Tov Ehrlich's parents. When he entered their home, Yaakov’s pants were torn from his journey to survival, so his mother (RYTE’s mother) sewed up his torn pants while Yaakov waited in the other room.

In honor of his Yahrtzeit we posted an article the Homodia newspaper published six year ago on Yaakov. We then did not have the entire article available, but we promised to try to get the full writeup and post it for our readers.

Below is the Full article the Homodia newspaper ran six year ago.
