Hikers Narrowly Avoid Being Crushed by Landslide
This is the moment a trickle of stones on an Andes mountain trek turned into a huge landslide leaving hikers running for their lives.
Julian Insarralde heads up a mountain trekking team who guide visitors around the famous range on the Argentina/Chile border.
However, in this shocking footage he captured on a three-day trek, explorers were forced to scramble to safety when tons of rocks tumbled down the mountain side.
The video begins by showing climbers leaping over a rock-slide of around three-foot, giving each other a helping hand to jump over it. The mood at this point is relatively calm, with laughing heard as the hikers appear to be pleased to see the flow.
However the width of the slide continues to widen, thus making it more of a challenge for the group to step onto safety. Then comes the warning sign from one of the group perched at the top of a raised platform, and what follows is terrifying. As people begin to scream and shout, it's not apparent at this point what is about to happen. But in a matter of seconds a gigantic flow of rocks speeding down the side of the mountain at ferocious speeds shows just what the warning was about.
Thankfully it appears that all members of the hiking group managed to avoid getting caught in the path of the landslide, that could easily have resulted in death.

Most scientists today are locked up inside the safety of their laboratories conducting experiments and demonstrating scientific laws with minimal exposure to danger. But Norwegian physicist Andreas Wahl is not most scientists.
In an attempt to demonstrate a certain Newtonian law of circular motion, Wahl put his own life on the line and rigged himself 46 feet up a warehouse. With centripetal force compelling traveling objects to follow a curved path and accelerating as they near a central point, Wahl should be in good hands.
As soon as a ball of weight tied to the other end of his line was released, Wahl was immediately pulled by gravity to the hard ground below. But with centripetal force to the rescue, the ball wraps around the crossbar where his line is and stops him just a few feet from certain pain.

Elephants Charge at Wild Dogs to Protect Calf
A pack of wild dogs attempting to make a meal out of a baby elephant discovered the power in numbers after two elephants trumpeted for the “cavalry.”
Dennis Browning, 32, from Johannesburg, was with a safari tour at Ingwelala, a private nature reserve next to Kruger National Park in South Africa, when three elephants, including a baby, encountered up to 16 wild dogs.
Browning captured captivating video showing the dogged determination of wild dogs going up against an equally determined herd of elephants that clearly stick together.

Skier Tumbles More Than 1,000 Feet Down Mountain
A video of a skier tumbling more than 1,000 feet is going viral after it was released to promote skiing safety.
The video shows big-mountain skier Angel Collinson skiing in the Neacola Range in Alaska last spring.
When the snow beneath Collinson’s skis changed to ice, she flipped onto her back and tumbled more than 1,000 vertical feet, according to Teton Gravity Research (TGR), which released the footage
“The fall was absolutely terrifying. ... You have no idea what you are going to tumble over and there is basically nothing you can do but hang on,” Collinson told TGR. “This was a definitely a learning experience for me.”
“Maybe 99 times out of 100, you can ski through that terrain, but when it does go wrong, it’s more high-consequence,” said Collinson, who can be heard in the video saying, "I'm okay," when she finally comes to a stop.
Collinson did not sustain any major injures in the fall, according to TGR.
TGR, a Wyoming-based adventure and action sports media brand, last week hosted Safety Week 2016, which presented content on the risks and dangers of backcountry snow travel.
