In Her Own Words - Nanny's Brave Escape

In Her Own Words, nanny's brave escape in Mumbai

CNN News:

The story
The world knows her as the daring nanny who, clutching a 2-year-old boy, pushed past the havoc in a terrorized Mumbai and risked her life to keep the toddler safe.
But Sandra Samuel sees no heroism in her actions amid last week's terror attacks on India's financial capital that killed nearly 180 people -- including baby Moshe's parents, Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife, Rivka. She only wishes she could have done more.
"Even today, I am thinking I should have sent the baby and done something for the rabbi and his wife," Samuel told CNN in an exclusive television interview in Israel, where she now lives. Read full article »

Signs of hope in the case of little Aliza Schwab

This is a girl whom the mother had to plead with the doctors not to remove her C"V from life support! when will they learn?

It seems this news is not all that recent but it did hit the news only now.

ABC News Miami
NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- The parents of a little girl are seeing what they call "signs of hope" more than a year after their daughter was involved in a tragic accident.

For more than a year, Esther Schwab has been working with her daughter Aliza hour upon hour, day upon day during rehabilitation.

On August 2007, when Aliza drowned in the family pool, doctors said she had no brain activity, and the family was urged to pull her off of life support.

"We thank the Lord above for everything that she's doing," said Esther Schwab, Aliza's mother. "It's a tremendous miracle, you know. You can see everything on her with her movements, in response to commands."

They had faith Aliza would recover after that day in October of 2007 when the family took her home from the hospital. Several weeks ago they said they saw a major improvement; Aliza responded to voice commands. Her family was so amazed, they took out the video camera.

On the video, little Aliza is asked to move her arm and raise her legs multiple times, and she responds to all commands.

Hindy Brycks, her occupational therapist said that there is evidence of brain activity.

Her nurse, who has been with her everyday, said Aliza responds to commands on a daily basis. "It's like you wake up from a dream. Yesterday, she couldn't do certain things, today she can move. You speak to her, and it's like she's talking back to you."

The family is well aware that this is a long process, but they just want to remind everyone how far their little girl has come. "I was amazed, I was really speechless," said Esther Schwab.

Audio of Klausenberger Rebbe 1981: One Jew In India

In late 1981 5742 in a talk on the Parsha, the Klausenberger Rebbe OBM quotes the Mamar Chazal "Hashem did not exile the Jews only so that they will increase the amount of converts". Jews had to go into Galus only so that the nations of the world should know of the Jewish Nation and know of their G-D. that is the purpose of exile..

...There comes Jews -one Jew- who live in the entire India, it could be just one, [and] Hundreds of million non-Jews know of him. they speak about this Jew they tell over about the Jew "did they kill this Jew, is the Jew still Alive?"

Deep pain & feelings of sadness.
No other words can describe my feelings at this very moment. I am overcome with emotions just sitting and looking at the photos taken at the funerals of the holy Kedoshim who were brutally tortured - and killed at the hand of murderous subhumans.
There is no words in the English language to adequately describe the type of evil that these terrorists posses. It is beyond human comprehension.

On the other hand, the amount of Achdus shown on YWN in the past few days is incredible. The amount of Tehillim recited - praying for a miracle, woman organizing as many people to take Challah in their Zechus, and finally the learning of the entire Shisha Sidrei Mishnah in the memory of the Kedoshim. The work of so many organizations trying to assist the grieving families, the Chesed of ZAKA, Misaskim, as well as the tireless activists who activated and used their contacts in the NYPD, The US State Department, the Port Authority PD….the Israeli Air Force - and all Israeli Government Agencies…..the list is endless…. JERUSALEM (Dec. 1) - The cries of little Moshe Holtzberg wounded hearts Monday at a tearful memorial for his parents in India. "Mommy, mommy, mommy!" he wailed, clutching a toy basketball while squirming in the arms of mourners at the Mumbai synagogue.

Then the toddler and the caretaker who rescued him from the terrorist attack boarded a jet along with the bodies of his parents and four other Jews slain at the Chabad House to fly to Israel — a place the curly-haired 2-year-old had never seen. Rav Gavriel Holtzberg Blessed By The Rebbe

Gabi as a child asks the Lubavitcher Rebbe for a blessing, and another blessing for the recovery of an ill person ("Refuah"). The Rebbe tells him (in Yiddish)that "you should be blessed in all your needs, and you should be a chosid, God fearing and a scholar". And for the ill person the Rebbe gave him another dollar and says "you should give Tzedakah and hear good news in all matters".

From the uploader: When Gabi was in United states he visited my office I gave him this video cassette, he took it with him to India he was very thankful and wanted to play this at his Chabad House.

Aish.com Words May Fail Us But Actions Cannot

By Rabbi Dr. Daniel P. Aldrich

At times like this, words fail us. We are struck silent by the sheer barbarism and scope of the tragedy: the cold blooded murder of Rabbi Gavriel and Rivkah Holtzberg -- a young couple who left behind all of the creature comforts of life in the West to go and help other Jews -- four other Jews shot dead inside the Chabad House, another 169 people killed, and 240 wounded.

I personally benefited from the self-sacrifice of the Holtzbergs. In 2003, they moved to Mumbai, giving up the comforts of the West in order to spread some light in one corner of the world. They purchased and renovated the building formerly known as the Nariman House into a beautiful five-story hotel, full of rooms for guests, dining rooms, and large pantries to hold all the kosher foodstuffs necessary to feed the multitude of visitors each week. The Chabad House was a glowing beacon of holiness in a city filled with poverty and starvation. Click here for more.

After commandos secured the building, Israelis were permitted to enter the building, the Mumbai Chabad House. On the first floor they found the body of Rabbi Gavriel Noach Holtzberg HY”D. He had been shot in his head and chest. On the second floor was found the body of his wife, Rebbitzin Rivka HY”D, who was also murdered from point blank range. Her body was covered with a tallis, which officials believe Rav Gavriel managed to do before being taken to be executed by his captors. Five years the young couple worked laboriously to bring Yiddishkeit to Mumbai. They were together in life and in death. Click here for more.
