Just moments before Shabbos, as the holy day of Purim was coming to an end, Williamsburg witnessed an unforgettable scene. A truck from Einyim suddenly appeared, blasting a lively song. Within seconds, the streets filled with hundreds of people spontaneously bursting into joyous dance! The energy, the unity, the pure simcha—it was a sight to behold.

Jews Flock to Axe-throwing Self Defense Class
Members of Williamsburg's Jewish community tried to take their safety into their own hands on Monday, as they attended axe-throwing self-defence classes in New York City, in the wake of the recent deadly anti-Semitic shooting in Jersey City.
The classes are led by former NYPD officer and martial arts expert Gary Moskowitz, known as 'Rabbi Sensei,' and are designed to teach attendees how to handle a variety of weapons, including axes and spears, as well as how to respond to physical attacks and protect themselves.
Moskowitz explained that his motivation to start the classes was the rise in anti-Semitic attacks, stating that "Synagogues have Nazi swastikas painted on it here, people are cursing at us because we a Jewish, people punch us. Then it goes to terror where people shoot at us and try to kill our children."
The 62-year-old reportedly started the 'counter-terrorism' class for the Orthodox community in wake of the kosher market attack in where four people were killed in Jersey City on December 10.

Thousands Escort Satmar Rebbe As He Leaves To Israel
The Williamsburg community was near gridlock on Sunday afternoon, November 17, 2019, as the Satmar Rebbe Rabbi Zalman Leib Teitelbaum prepares to leave on a trip to visit Eretz Yisroel.
Many streets of Bedford Avenue have been closed all day Sunday with no parking on either side, as thousands of Satmar Chassidim wish the Rebbe farewell as he leaves to the airport. A massive stage with loudspeakers was set up, with bleachers on the sides of the streets.
The Rebbe will first stop in London on Monday, where he will visit his Mosdos in Stamford Hill and Golders Green. On Monday night the Rebbe will be escorted to the airport by thousands of his Chassidim as he departs for Eretz Yisroel – reportedly on a private jet.
He will be greeted by the Eidah Charieids upon his arrival in Ben Gurion Airport on Tuesday morning and will travel to Yerushalayim where a massive Kabolas Ponim will be held at Malchei Yisroel near Sarei Yisroel streets.
He has a packed schedule in Eretz Yisroel until next Thursday, when he will return home.

Chasidic Man Attacked in Williamsburg
Shocking video has surfaced showing the brutal moment a young man punches a Hasidic Jewish man in the head without provocation in Williamsburg,
The incident took place on Tuesday evening at 7.40pm in Williamsburg, Brooklyn at the intersection of Marcy Avenue and Rodney Street. The vicious attack was caught on CCTV footage and shows the moment a 39-year-old Orthodox Jewish man walks along the street and is suddenly hit from behind. The victim was hit with such force that he reels forward and his hat and yarmulke falls to the ground.
After the suspect throws his hit, he runs away, looking back at his injured victim.
The young suspect, dressed in a grey sweater and a blue backpack, appears to be smiling as he runs away.
The shocked Jewish man then picks up his hat and runs after the assailant.
'A 39 year-old male victim stated to police that he was walking on the sidewalk when an unidentified male approached him from behind and slapped him on the side of the face with an open hand, causing pain and redness to his face,' DCPI Spokesperson Detective Sophia Mason said to DailyMail.com.
Police say that the victim did not speak to his aggressor prior to the attack and the punch was unprovoked.
It's not clear what happened after the victim ran after his aggressor.
Following the attack the NYPD and Jewish civilian patrol Shomrim group to the scene, but the suspect had already fled.
There were no arrests made in the case and the Hate Crime Task Force is investigating this as a possibly biased incident.

Williamsburg Residents Could Face Forcible Vaccinations
Health officials may forcibly inject residents of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, who flout a mandatory vaccination order, a City Hall spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday.
“We will consider [forcible vaccinations] on a case-by-case basis,” said mayoral spokeswoman Marcy Miranda, adding that the drastic measure is “not our first choice.”
City officials announced a public health emergency over the outbreak following the diagnoses of 285 cases of measles since October.
Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot signed an order Tuesday that requires around 212,000 people who live and work in Williamsburg and aren’t already immune to measles to be vaccinated within 48 hours. Violators will face a $1,000 fine.

Schoolgirls Nearly Struck As Driver Uses Sidewalk
VIN News - Brooklyn, NY - For the second time in less than a week, Jewish children on their way to school had their lives endangered by a vehicle driving on the sidewalk.
Surveillance footage showed two backpack-clad Chasidic girls jumping out of the way of an oncoming pickup truck as they waited to cross Harrison Avenue at the corner of Wallabout Street in Williamsburg just before 8:30 AM.
The late model, four door, black Chevrolet pickup with flashing yellow dashboard lights was at the northeast corner of Harrison Avenue, and with traffic jamming the intersection, the driver drove around a school bus and mounted the curb, missing the two girls at the southeast corner of Harrison Avenue by approximately three feet.
This morning’s incident follows another that took place on February 20th when the driver of a blue Toyota Avalon drove on the sidewalk on 53rd Street between 18th and 19th avenues in Borough Park to avoid having to wait behind a stopped school bus, just as a second school bus was unloading small children at Talmud Torah Imrei Chaim Viznitz.
Surveillance footage showed the youngsters and a supervising teacher staring in surprise as the car inched slowly towards the building’s entrance while the children crossed in front of the vehicle, with the driver zooming down the sidewalk as the teacher held the rest of the boys back and out of harm’s way.
Sources told VIN News that the driver of the Avalon had had words with the driver of the stopped school bus just before the incident took place.
Police said that they have impounded the Avalon but an investigation is still underway and that they have yet to apprehend the driver of the vehicle.

Teens Assault Chasidic Boy in Williamsburg
An NYPD search for a group of teens wanted for throwing a pipe into a Williamsburg synagogue this past weekend has escalated, with the same group wanted for assaulting two Chasidic youngsters within moments of the incident.

Neither of the two Chasidic children was seriously injured.
The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Unit is investigating the matter and police are hoping that video footage of the attack will help them identify the suspects who are described as a group of male blacks, ranging between 12 to 15 years of age.

Measles Outbreak in Williamsburg, Rockland County
Six children below the age of 5 were diagnosed with measles in Brooklyn, health officials said Wednesday.
The initial case started after a child traveled to Brooklyn from Israel, where a large outbreak is occurring.
Five of the children were not vaccinated.
“Although measles is preventable, too many families are choosing to not vaccinate or delay vaccination, putting their children and other children at risk” said Acting Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot. “It is also important to make sure the entire family is protected before traveling internationally, because outbreaks of measles are occurring in Israel and throughout Europe. If your child develops a fever and rash, contact their health care provider and keep your children home from school or daycare.”
There are also 11 confirmed measles cases in Rockland County.
Anyone who suspects an exposure is urged to call a health care provider before going to a medical office or emergency department.
Measles symptoms include rash, high fever, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes. It can cause serious complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis (swelling of the brain). Measles infection in a pregnant woman can lead to miscarriage, premature birth or a low-birth-weight baby. Measles is easily spread through the air when someone coughs or sneezes. People can also get sick when they come in contact with mucus or saliva from an infected person.

Collisions Between Cyclists, Pedestrians Growing Concern
It happened in a matter of seconds: A school bus pulled right up to the corner of South 5th Street and Hooper Street in Williamsburg; A 6-year-old came running around the front of a bus.
Then, a bicyclist came flying down the street, slamming into the child and sending her straight onto the pavement.
Moments later, police said the cyclist just took off.
“I was inside here but I saw him,” said Hangy Falkowitz, mother of the girl who suffered a nose injury, cuts and bruises from the impact with the cyclist. “It’s very sad that the bicyclists are so wild and they don’t obey the rules or the stop signs and they just pass a stop sign and hit a child.”
“This is unheard of,” said Williamsburg resident Isaac Abraham to CBS2’s Marc Liverman. “You knock off a child, the child was lucky to get up, knowing where to go, ring the bell and lucky somebody was there to open the door for her.”
Abraham said he’s heard of three collisions where bicyclists slammed into pedestrians, some pushing strollers.
New York City police have issued more than 500 red light summonses to bicyclists in 2018 alone.
But Abraham says it’s just not enough. He wants to see more bicycle rule enforcement before someone else is hit.
“If you’re going to bike on a steady way, some type of registration responsibility that if, God forbid, you injure somebody that you cannot just walk away from it,” he said.
Police haven’t released a description of that cyclist, but tell CBS2 he could be charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

Neighbors Complain Shabbos Siren is Dangerously Loud
A siren at a Brooklyn synagogue signifies the Sabbath, but neighbors said their complaint about the painfully loud noise has fallen on deaf ears.
As CBS2’s Valerie Castro reported, the city is filled with all kinds of loud noises. Of course, it comes with the territory. But some Bedford-Stuyvesant residents said a sound on another level is coming from the synagogue with a siren to signify Shabbat, which leaves them covering their ears. “There’s a quality to the sound that’s actually you know, it’s sort of, ‘Errrrr!’’” said Robert Prichard of Bedford-Stuyvesant.
The siren was installed just a few months ago. “I’m used to noise — it’s part of living in a city. This is something else entirely,” Graubart said, “unbelievably loud; breathtakingly loud. It’s terrifying.” Some residents have even bought special hearing protection to muffle the sound. “Even with these on, I can still hear it,” Prichard said as he wore the hearing protection.
The blast lasts for 90 seconds.
