"[My son] Mendy came home from Cheder singing the simple Yiddish tune depicting 'our' supplication to Rochel so I thought to myself, hey! let's mash it up with what follows - 'Rachel' indeed implores on our behalf.

Composer of the Yiddish tune is unknown to me, Cantorial parts are excerpts of Cantor David Roitman's masterpiece Rochel Mevako al Boneho.

Composed by the late Leo Low, this classic humorously depicts the life of a struggling Chazzan (Cantor) and the auditions he needs to endure.

The song was refreshed in the 50’s by The Barry Sisters and here Yanky Lemmer and Avremi G further invigorate it with a current twist.

The New York Cantors, all serving synagogues in New York, are: Brooklyn- born Yaakov (Yanky) Lemmer, Head Cantor of the Lincoln Square Synagogue in New York City; Azi Schwartz, a native of Israel and Cantor at New York’s Park Avenue Synagogue; and Netanel Hershtik, Cantor at The Hampton Synagogue, Westhampton Beach, New York.

The New York Cantors concert reprises an earlier project for PBS in The Portuguese Synagogue, Cantors, A Faith in Song. That ground-breaking recording became a popular staple of PBS station programming for Jewish holidays and fund-raising drives for years following its premiere in 2003.

At a concert commemorating 700 years of the Lublin Jewish Community, the Lublin Philharmonic joins forces with Maestro Eli Jaffe and Cantor Yaakov (Yanky) Lemmer. From the Uploader: In this weeks Torah portion we learn the story about the passing of Rachel our matriarch. In a few weeks from now we read a portion where we learn that our Patriarch Jacob specifically chose Rachels burial plot to be roadside in the middle of nowhere so that her children have a place to Daven (pray) at her tombstone when they are exiled of Jerusalem. Ever since, Jews from the entire world gather to pray at this holy burial site, begging Rachel, to intercede on our behalf and beseech the Almighty's mercy.

From the words of Jeremiah we see that Rachel indeed weeps for her children. "Thus says the Lord: “A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.”
