Driver captures avalanch ripping through Ten Mile Canyon near I-70 in Colorado
An avalanche tore down a mountainside in Colorado’s Summit County and slumped across Interstate 70 on Sunday afternoon amid peak after-ski traffic, forcing state highway authorities to close one of the nation’s main east-west transportation routes.
Colorado Department of Transportation snow plows and Summit County emergency crews raced to the scene between Frisco and Copper Mountain shortly after 5 p.m. Snowplows cleared I-70 within 90 minutes.

Moment Huge Avalanche Sweeps Through Ski Resort
Terrifying footage shows the moment holidaymakers skied for their lives as an avalanche swept through a popular Swiss resort, Yesterday Wednsday Febuary 19, 2019
A Frenchman, 34, whose job was to check to safety of the slopes, died overnight after being injured in the avalanche. Three others were rescued after being swept away as a torrent of snow swept through Plaine Morte, a glacier near the town of Crans-Montana.
Footage captured by one of the skiers on their GoPro shows the moments shortly before the avalanche crashed down from the top of the mountains, as skiers desperately tried to avoid being crushed.
Skiers are seen enjoying their time on the slopes just moments before the avalanches starts.
The person filming the moments leading up to the avalanche appear in no rush as they put on their gloves before making their way down the hill.
As they set off, a deep crash is heard in the background and the skier turns around, revealing a white cloud of snow hurtling towards them.
The person speeds up down the hill and seems to encourage others to do the same.
Nearly 250 rescue workers , medics, police officers and military personnel took part in the search, backed by eight helicopters and a dozen search dogs. Searches continued throughout the night but were halted on Wednesday morning.
The cause of the avalanche remains unclear. Nearly half of the 920-yard long avalanche made a direct hit across the ski slope. Leger said one possible cause for the avalanche could have been triggered by the passage of a skier.

Man Helplessly Slides Down His Steep Icy Driveway
While carefully putting down rock salt to give foothold and melt the thick sheet of ice that had formed on his steep driveway, homeowner Jeffrey Takach took an awkward step that sent him helplessly sliding down and into the street. Luckily Takach was not seriously hurt in the incident, as shown in clear footage from his Nest Cam.

Plane Skids Upon Landing Crashes into Pile of Snow
Visitors to the French ski resort of Courchevel witnessed an unlucky pilot fail to stop his plane in time during a landing and then crash into a pile of snow.
The footage shows a small Piper PA-46 aircraft rolling away from the off-strip and ploughing into the pile of snow nearby.
The plane had five passengers on board, according to local media. Four of them received injuries and were treated in the medical office nearby. One young woman was reported to be seriously injured.

Park City has been receiving many feet of snow these past weeks. This video was taken out front of The Eating Establishment on the top of Main Street Park City. A tow truck pulling a semi that is stuck and lo and behold, a skier comes down at the perfect time. It is not uncommon to see this when the conditions are present. Though usually, the trucks don't get stuck.

Team of Trucks Saves a Bus

"My friends and I rescue this city bus in Montreal! We take our three trucks, a Toyota 4Runner V8, a Toyota Sequoia and a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. The bus was full of passengers and we had to pull them out of the snow and climb an icy hill."

Manually Triggering Avalanches in the Alps
Helicopter crew drop explosives on mountain pistes to trigger an avalanche in after heavy snowfall in incredible footage.
Rescuers filmed the breath-taking footage as they flew above the slopes of Grimentz, in the Swiss Alps, on January 15.
Explosives can be seen falling on the mountain ridges which causes the snow to cascade down in a domino effect.
Helicopter teams were deployed to trigger controlled avalanches to release snow buildup after more than 39 inches fell in some parts of the region in 24 hours.
A local aviation and rescue company, Air-Glaciers, worked with the local ski station to secure the pistes ahead of their opening for skiers.
This comes after heavy snowfall trapped tourists in hotels in the Alps, with all roads blocked and the only way of leaving or entering was by helicopter.
Rescue teams worked 'as a matter of urgency' to try to open roads to free guests as Switzerland's avalanche institute, SLF, lowered the avalanche risk from the highest level, five, to four.
Frank Techel, an avalanche forecaster at Swiss avalanche research institute SLF, said that roughly 10-13 feet of snow had been dumped on the Zermatt area so far this year, which he called an 'extraordinary' amount for the region in such a short span.

Climbers Escaped Deadly Pakistan Avalanche
Nail-biting moment a group of hikers in Pakistan are forced to dive behind rocks as they realize an avalanche is hurtling towards them
Footage captured the nail-biting moment the climbers see an avalanche falling from a rocky ridge on a mountain in Pakistan.
Clouds of billowing snow can be seen roaring it's way towards them as they shout 'It's coming!'
Snow continues to hurtle down the rock face and then eventually the hikers are engulfed by snow plume which has been stirred up during its descent.
They suddenly realize they are in it's pathway and could get hit by the snow hurtling towards them at speed. One of the climbers, who is filming the heart-stopping moment, makes a duck behind a rock as the snow whips passed above them.
The white, snowy cloud soon engulfs the hiker, who continues to film the terrifying occurrence.
He can be heard gasping in shock as the remnants of the ear-splitting avalanche coats his body with snow and ice. As the snow eases off, the hiker shouts out to his friends to see if anyone has been hurt.
Luckily the group of climbers appeared to be unharmed by the freak occurrence.

"The rapid flow of snow hit the parking lot at the foot of Mount Elbrus in the North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria. The massive avalanche came down on the vehicles, possibly damaging them beyond repair. Luckily, the snow stopped before hitting any major infrastructure, and the emergency services said that they haven’t received any reports of people hurt."

Die Hard Fans Lift Car Out of the Ditch
A group of die-hard motorsport fans rallied together to help a car out of a ditch in the middle of a race.
In the clip, filmed during this year's Darvit Walimska spring rally in Poland, the tiny Fiat vehicle can be seen speeding around a corner.
Unfortunately the car drifts and falls into a ditch before ending up on its side.
Spectators watching the race, who are just metres away, can be seen running on to the track and getting into the ditch alongside the car.
After a man gets out of the passenger seat the group struggle in the snow to push the car out of the ditch. Once it is successfully out, it speeds off to cheering and laughing from the crowd.

Out of Control Ski Lift Sends Riders Flying Into the Air
At least eight people have been injured after a malfunctioning ski lift threw people from their seats at a ski resort in Georgia.
Skiers and snowboarders were forced to jump from the faulty chairlift on Friday as their seats hurtled backwards down the mountain, with some people falling from carriages at speed, in what one witness likened to “a scene from a Final Destination film”.
Videos of the accident at Gudauri resort in Georgia show a pile-up of broken and twisted chairs at the bottom of the lift as bystanders scream at people to jump.
An emergency stop led to the chairs sliding back at high speed, the economy minister, Dimitry Kumsishvili, told journalists, adding that the incident was “allegedly caused by an electricity outage”.
“The interior ministry has launched a criminal probe into alleged violation of safety norms,” he said.
The health minister, Davit Sergeenko, said the affected tourists – who were Georgiain, Russian, Swedish and Ukrainian – did not suffer serious injuries.
“Two of them including a pregnant woman from Sweden were airlifted to a hospital in Tbilisi,” he said.
A spokesperson for Doppelmayr, the Austrian manufacturer of the chairlift, said two technicians were in transit to Georgia to respond to the incident. No initial cause was given.
The fixed-grip four-seat chairlift was installed at the Georgian ski resort in 2007. The design includes an emergency brake and backup power generator, the company said.

Rescuers used bare hands and shovels to dig out a man buried in snow after an avalanche at a ski resort in California.
The avalanche hit five people Friday at a resort in Olympic Valley, leaving one hospitalized with a serious lower body injury, the Placer County Sheriff's Office said.
Another person was treated and released, while the other three were unharmed, authorities said.
Heather Turning was spending her birthday snowboarding at the resort when the avalanche hit. She was among those who helped in the rescue.
"It looked like a blazing cloud of snow coming down," she said. "It went pretty fast."
As the avalanche settled, she heard a woman yelling, "My husband, my husband!" she said.
People saw a tip of a snowboard in the snow and raced toward it, she said. Everyone started digging furiously around it, gingerly removing snow from the man's face.
A video by Turning shows a handful of rescuers using shovels and bare hands to pull out the man as his head peeks out of the snow.

A terrifying video captured the moment a woman leaps out of her car right before an 18-wheeler rams into it. The woman appears to spot the truck sliding on the road inches before it makes contact with her car.
She dives out of her vehicle and narrowly avoids getting smashed along with her sedan. The woman then stands and stares at the icy pileup in shock.

School Bus Slides Down Icy Road During Morning Pickup
It was a scary commute for some children in Sutton, Mass., on Wednesday, after their school bus slid down an icy street and hit a parked car.
The incident was captured on cellphone video by Cheryl Katz, according to local media reports. "I've been shaking all day," Katz told WBZ, the CBS affiliate in Boston.
WBZ reports about 20 students were on board the bus, but none were injured.

Sliding Down Europe's Highest Mountain on Belly
A daredevil snowboarder from Russia slid down Europe's highest Elbrus Mountain face down on his belly, Monday. The daring snowboarder used his stomach as a board while descending the snowy mountainside with frenetic speed. Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain in Europe and is located in the Caucasus Mountains in southern Russia, near the border with Georgia.
