He Picked the Wrong Neighborhood

The story begins right before Shabbos, when a resident parked his vehicle and accidentally left his keys inside. A suspect walked by, noticed the car was unlocked with the keys still in it, and simply drove off.

After Shabbos, the owner realized his car was gone and reached out to Shomrim. NYPD was notified as well and a police report was made. The vehicle information and license plate were then shared with Shomrim volunteers, so they could keep their eyes open.

The next day, the owner suddenly spotted his vehicle parked on the next block. But this time the car was locked and the keys were missing. Since he did not have a spare key, he planned to change the locks. Before he could do that, the car disappeared again.

Today, Shomrim volunteers on patrol spotted the vehicle driving around local streets. Shomrim immediately notified NYPD and continued following the moving car until responding officers arrived. Police surrounded the vehicle and stopped it, and the suspect was taken into custody. The vehicle was secured and returned to its owner.

Important reminder:
Never leave your keys inside your car even for a moment.
One small mistake can turn into a very big headache.
